Christmas is near: three WS2812 RGB Rings

on 8 July 2015 in Arduino

Last year a NeoPixel ring with 24 LEDs  blinked in our Christmas tree. I presented it on the last MakerFaire Hannover, but unfortunately it was too close to the Tesla coil on our booth, and it stopped working. To be prepared for this year’s Christmas I ordered new rings from Watterott – not one, but three: 16, 24, and 32 LEDs.

The rings can be controlled with the Adafruit Neopixel library. The difference between the Adafruit rings the Watterott rings is, that the LEDs on the Adafruit rings are a little bit closer, so that the rings are smaller.

I connected the rings mechanically with card board and superglue, and soldered the connections.

(Not a masterpiece in soldering)

Now I have enough time to think about patterns.
